Missions

Missions are very important here at Burnsville First Presbyterian Church. We are involved in many projects based locally and globally. We firmly believe in being Jesus' presence on earth when it comes to serving your neighbor. We base our Mission Program on Matthew 25:34-36, which reads (from The Message version):

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's foundation. And here's why:

I was hungry and you fed me,

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,

I was homeless and you gave me a room,

I was shivering and you gave me clothes,

I was sick and you stopped to visit,

I was in prison and you came to me.'

We have many ongoing projects as well as special fundraisers and mission trips to devastated areas. Below is a listing of some of these projects:

Sister Church Program in Guatemala: Administered through the WNC Presbytery, we have partnered with the Nueva Esperanza Presbyterian Church located in San Felipe, Guatemala. Yearly trips have been made to Guatemala to visit our sister church, as well as visits from elders from Nueva Esperanza to Burnsville. We are constantly inspired by the faithfulness of our Nueva Esperanza brothers and sisters and have been enriched by this program.

Scholarship Program with Nueva Esperanza Church in Guatemala: In the spring of 2009, we covenanted with our sister church to provide 25 scholarships for three years to needy students in their church and community.

Continued visitation

Hospital in Malawi, Africa:

Reconciliation House: Our local food pantry and thrift store, we have supported them with yearly gifts and special fundraisers. We presented a Christmas Music Program to raise funds for the Fuel Program, at a time when the price of heating oil was at record highs. Most recently, our Empty Bowls supper raised funds that went directly to their food program for those in need.
