Part Time Youth Director Position Available

First Presbyterian Church of Burnsville is looking for a part time Youth Director to serve the youth (grades 6 – 12) at our church. Job Description 

The Youth Director will develop a comprehensive, Biblically-based, service-oriented youth ministry program for grades 6 - 12 and assist in growth of preschool through 12th grade in our Wednesday Evening Children’s program. Programs and activities should be designed to nurture the spiritual growth of the youth so that they will reach out and serve others, impacting with the love of Christ.


1) Confessed and committed disciple of Jesus Christ
2) Successful experiences working with youth
3) Willingness to attend a Safe Sanctuary training as a requirement of the Presbytery for anyone working with youth and submit to a criminal background check
4) Demonstrated ability to work creatively and collaboratively with others

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in youth ministry with responsibilities for organizing and planning
Accountability: The Youth Director will report directly to the Pastor and be accountable to the
Session via the Christian Education Committee. The Youth Director is expected to work closely with the Christian Education Chair and volunteers.
Time Requirements: This position entails, on average, 10-12 hours per week, which may include up to three hours on Sunday mornings for participation in the education hour and worship time. The number of hours may vary depending on seasonal and program demands.


1) Lead youth program and develop age appropriate activities that promote fellowship, fun and faith. Interact with youth and their parents to develop program that supports resilient and strong families. The Youth Director will work to develop and maintain mutually respectful relationships with youth, their families and congregation.

3) Provide weekly updates in email to church secretary to be included in email that goes out to congregation. Additionally, provide monthly updates and articles for the church newsletter.

4) Maintain records of activities, including participants, costs, permission slips, and incident/accident reports.

5) Attend Christian Education meetings monthly giving records of youth activities and inform them of your goals and accomplishments. Develop age-appropriate activities that promote fellowship, fun and faith.

6) Identify, develop, and mentor youth leaders.

7) Organize and plan youth-led church services with the Pastor, Worship Committee, and Music Director.

8) Assist youth in identifying church/community needs both physical and spiritual. Lead youth in developing a mission plan to help meet those needs via service/ministry projects.

9) Recruit volunteers to assist with special programs, outings and missions. Assist Christian Education Committee in planning a Volunteer Appreciation day annually.

10) Help with planning of Vacation Bible School, enlisting 6th-12th grade youth and parent volunteers.

11) Plan, coordinate and lead local and non-local mission trips.

12) Coordinate activities and programs with youth groups from other churches.

13) Assist youth in the design of fundraisers that will provide funds for special projects or trips. All fund raisers must be supported by the youth, approved by Session and supervised by the Youth Director and volunteers.

14) Follow and implement Safe Sanctuary practices

15) Pursue continuing education opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge and spiritual growth.

16) Perform other duties assigned by the Pastor or Session.

Compensation and Evaluation:

Pay will vary depending on experience, starting out at $12-$14 per hour. Performance reviews will be conducted annually by the Pastor as Head of Staff in consultation with the Christian Education Committee. The Christian Education Committee will review annually the adequacy of compensation of the Youth Director with final approval from Session.
