The Little Church on the Hill...

Thank you for visiting us on our website. I hope by the photos and text, you'll get a glimpse of what God has created here on the hill in Burnsville.

We've been here a long time - since 1897 when a little band of believers met to organize our church. Their immediate mission was to begin the first school in Yancey County. Through the work of the Presbyterian Church Mission Board, the Stanley McCormick School was founded. It stood on the 25 surrounding acres of where the church now stands, offering children not only reading, writing and arithmetic, but Greek and Latin! The school operated until a public school finally opened in the mid 1920's.

But the church has continued, promoting education today by housing the Church Street Preschool - an excellent pre-kindergarten learning experience for children ages 3,4, and 5.

Our church has grown every year for the last ten years, now with around 165 members and growing.

We have a wonderful community of children as well as adults of all sizes and ages - from birth to 92!

We have education groups that meet through the week as well as Sunday morning. We have a vital mission program which reaches out both nearby and far away.

We are assured that God's fingerprints are all over our church and we are a work of God - in progress.

Through the love and example of Jesus Christ, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the continuous creation of our Almighty God, we are excited to be a part of what God is doing in the world today. Christ is our heart and we are His hands, His feet.
